Affordable Gaming – A €500–600 PC Build That Can Run STALKER 2
Affordable Gaming Is Not Dead – A €500–600 PC Build That Can Run STALKER 2
For years, PC gaming was about smart choices, not luxury. You didn’t need the newest flagship GPU or a glowing glass case to enjoy good games. You needed balanced hardware, realistic expectations, and a bit of technical common sense.
Today, many players feel left behind. Prices rise, wages don’t. Energy, rent, food – everything costs more. And yet, the hardware industry keeps pushing higher requirements, bigger GPUs, and “recommended” specs that assume unlimited budgets.
This article is a small counter-movement.
The goal is simple:
Build a new (or properly refurbished with warranty) desktop PC for around €500–600 that can actually run STALKER 2 at 1080p on Low to Medium settings, using sensible compromises instead of unrealistic promises.
No influencer hype. No “Ultra settings”. Just honest gaming for people who still want to play.
Target Game: STALKER 2 – Why This Matters
STALKER 2 is not an easy game to run. It uses Unreal Engine 5, streams large worlds, and punishes weak GPUs with low VRAM and unstable frametimes. That’s exactly why it’s the right benchmark.
If a budget PC can run STALKER 2, it can handle a lot of modern games.
Official system requirements already tell us something important:
-
6 CPU cores are recommended even for low settings
-
16 GB RAM is mandatory
-
SSD is not optional
-
8 GB VRAM is the absolute minimum for a tolerable experience
This means iGPU-only systems are not a realistic solution here. A dedicated GPU is required.
Build Option 1: The Absolute Minimum That Still Works
Target: 1080p Low, ~30 FPS, with upscaling
This build is designed for people who need the lowest possible entry price while still playing the game instead of watching a slideshow.
CPU
AMD Ryzen 5 5500
6 cores / 12 threads, modern enough, cheap, and sufficient for UE5 when paired with a budget GPU.
Mainboard
A520M (micro-ATX)
No overclocking, no luxury features – but stable, modern BIOS, and cheap. Perfectly fine for this class of system.
Memory
16 GB DDR4 (2×8 GB), 3200 MHz, Dual Channel
Dual channel is mandatory. Single-stick RAM kills performance in modern games.
Graphics Card
Intel Arc A750 8 GB
This GPU is explicitly listed in STALKER 2’s official low-preset requirements.
It offers modern features (XeSS upscaling, good DX12 performance) and is still available new at reasonable prices.
Storage
1 TB SSD (NVMe or SATA)
STALKER 2 alone requires around 160 GB. Anything below 1 TB is false economy.
Power Supply
550 W, 80+ Bronze, reputable brand
Do not cheap out here. A stable PSU protects every other component.
Expected Result
-
1080p Low settings
-
30 FPS target
-
Upscaling (XeSS / FSR / TSR) recommended
-
Occasional frametime drops in heavy outdoor scenes
This is not pretty gaming – but it is real gaming.
Build Option 2: The “Balanced” Budget Build (Recommended)
Target: 1080p Low–Medium, better frametimes
If you can stretch the budget slightly, this version is noticeably more comfortable to play.
CPU
AMD Ryzen 5 5600
Same core count as the 5500, but better cache and stronger per-core performance. Helps reduce stutter.
Mainboard
B550M (micro-ATX)
Better VRM quality, better upgrade path, and usually more reliable memory support.
Memory
32 GB DDR4 (2×16 GB)
Not strictly required, but UE5 games benefit from memory headroom. Frametime stability improves, background streaming hurts less.
Graphics Card
Intel Arc A750 8 GB
The Arc A580 can work if every euro matters, but the A750 is the safer choice for STALKER 2.
Storage
1 TB SSD (NVMe preferred)
Power Supply
550 W, 80+ Bronze (same reasoning as above)
Expected Result
-
1080p Low to Medium (depending on area)
-
Upscaling enabled
-
More stable frametimes
-
Much better “day-to-day” playability
This is the version we would recommend publicly if the goal is “cheap but responsible”.
Important Setup Notes (Do Not Skip These)
Budget hardware only works if it is configured correctly:
-
Enable XMP / DOCP for RAM
-
Make sure Resizable BAR (ReBAR) is enabled for Intel Arc GPUs
-
Use current GPU drivers
-
Install the game on an SSD, not HDD
-
Use Windows “High Performance” or equivalent power profile
These steps cost nothing but can decide whether the system feels broken or playable.
Where to Buy (Examples)
Availability and prices change weekly, but here are typical sources:
-
Amazon (new hardware, easy returns)
-
Mindfactory / Alternate / Caseking (EU PC retailers)
-
Manufacturer-refurbished GPUs with warranty (Intel Arc models often qualify)
Always check:
-
Warranty length
-
Return policy
-
Exact GPU model (cooler quality matters)
Final Words: Why This Build Exists
This is not a “dream PC”.
It is not future-proof.
It will not run everything on Ultra.
But it respects reality.
Gaming should not be reserved for people with disposable income and zero financial pressure. With thoughtful component choices, honest expectations, and a bit of old-school PC building discipline, it is still possible to play modern games without selling a kidney.
If the industry forgets that, communities shouldn’t.
That’s what this build is about.
Some final Notes:
I can personally recommend these two PC builds. I put a lot of thought into them. Sure, you could cobble together a cheaper build, but I wanted to maintain a certain level of quality for you.
If you want to save a few more euros and can do without colorful lights and typical gaming flashing, then buy DDR4 3200MHz RAM modules, which are more suited for office workstations. These are the ugly green RAM modules, but they're just as good in terms of quality. Don't skimp on the power supply; Bronze+ should be the minimum. You can also save on the fan if you don't want RGB lighting. For the processor, you can buy a used one, but make sure it has a warranty or return option. This way, you might even save up to 80 euros more.
