BioWare’s latest official update confirms that the next Mass Effect is still in development and that the studio is focused exclusively on it. That is reassuring. At the same time, there is still no new gameplay, release window, final title or fresh trailer to analyse. BioWare has also confirmed that the planned Amazon series will tell a new story set after the original trilogy, rather than replaying Commander Shepard’s path. For now, the sensible read is simple: Mass Effect is alive, but BioWare is not ready to show its hand yet. Mass Effect 5: "Trilogie-Veteranen" an Entwicklung beteiligt Einige Fans wird es sehr trübe stimmen, dass sich Mass Effect 5 noch immer im Stadium der Pre-Production befinden soll, also Konzept und Aufbau Phase eines Titels und die erste in der gesamten Entwicklung, bevor es an die eigentliche Umsetzung des Konzepts geht. Bereits 2022 lies Bioware verlauten, dass sich der Titel in der Pre-Production befinde und hier auch gute Fortschritte mache. Natürlich ist durchaus bekannt, dass Bioware auch gerne einmal mehrere Projekte zeitgleich in der Pipeline hat, in dem Fall etwa Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Dessen Entwicklung wird zeitweilig forciert, denn der Titel soll bereits im Sommer 2024 erscheinen, während das kommende Mass Effect 5 laut einigen Quellen tatsächlich erst ca. im Jahr 2029 erscheinen wird, auf die Unreal Engine 5 setzt und wieder weniger Open World sein wird. Ist also noch eine gute Weile hin, bis wir erstens etwas mehr darüber in Erfahrung bringen können und bis zum tatsächlichen Release wird wohl selbst den weiblichen Fans ein grauer Bart wachsen. How is the development of Mass Effect 5 going? Gary McKay, Bioware's General Manager, recently spoke on the blog on the official website. First, he reported on the future of Star Wars: The Old Republic and went into the current status of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, from which there will probably be new material to be seen shortly. Then he came to talk about Mass Effect 5, but his statements shouldn't exactly cause a storm of jubilation among the fans. "As for Mass Effect 5, we remain in pre-production with a core team of veteran writers who are advancing the franchise's rich story in spectacular new ways." At first glance, this statement seems very general and actually has no tangible information to offer. Mass Effect 5: Everything we know so far Bioware is working on a new Mass Effect game, and although we don't have many details on what's effectively Mass Effect 5, at least we know it's coming. It's early days for the game's development, with a blog post recently detailing that it's still in pre-production but "development has been proceeding very well". We have had some concept art, but realistically details on what the new Mass Effect game will be are pretty light. What we do know is that the next Mass Effect game looks set to be a follow-up to the original Mass Effect trilogy - which are often counted among the best RPGs around. BioWare also recently committed to it being a single-player experience like those that came before it, and we have additional details like it will feature returning characters from the original trilogy. With some of the best game stories around, the prospect of another entry in the series has us all excited.
